The Hydro Vane…

I’ve been playing around with the wind vane and having trouble trusting it enough to leave the helm. What I figured out is that it wanders up and down 10-20 degrees but overall stays the course. This took awhile for me to be ok with this, and for future solo passages this will be key! This voyage from Van Isle is in a way my shakedown for what’s coming!

      1. Yes, alarms you can set so if a boat comes within, for example, 15 miles, an audible alarm will sound until canceled. You’ll find the specifics in your user’s guide, but anytime the helm is not attended you should set guard zones, especially where a lot of fast moving commercial traffic is expected. A lot of these vessels will leave their bridge unattended at times, and they won’t feel a collision with a boat like yours. There are no rules of the road in those circumstances…you simply need to keep out of their way, Goose
